The Star-Sticker Secret

For grown-ups: what this story teaches

This story addresses the "double-spending" problem and its solution through decentralization. Digital goods are infinitely reproducible, so early digital money required a centralized third-party intermediary (a "Boss") to maintain a ledger and prevent users from spending the same digital token twice. However, relying on a central intermediary introduces costs, delays, and censorship risks. Bitcoin solves this by using a decentralized, distributed ledger (the blockchain). Because all nodes share and verify the exact same record, fraudulent double-spends are rejected by network consensus, entirely removing the need for a trusted third-party intermediary.
